*Whew!* That was a long hike!
My legs hurt a little, but hiking is my favorite way to exercise and explore
Taiwan!
I like hike on Elephant Mountain, the Dakeng Trail, and see the monkeys on
Shou Shan.
You can go hiking almost everywhere in Taiwan! We go hiking on "trails."
"Trails" are like hiking roads!
But...someone has to keep the trails open and safe for hikers.
Big cities have people that take care of hiking trails.
But what about small places far away from big cities...like the mountains in
Pingtung or Hsinchu.
One man who helps is 80-years-old!
He is a member of the Rukai native people.
Another helper is 78- years-old. He's a Hakka man.
Both of these people use stones to make hiking trails.
They say they want to keep hikers safe and help people enjoy hiking.
There are so many wonderful hiking trails all over this island.
But, the trials need to be fixed sometimes.
Maybe someday younger people can help fix hiking trails … maybe you!
